Since 2010 Arabia Analytica has served as a political and economic navigator for firms interested in the Middle East, Russia and energy markets.  Arabia Analytica is a team of former diplomats, trade negotiators, bankers, journalists, and academics.  We maintain an extensive network of relationships with members of the ruling families, senior government officials, prominent business leaders and media figures in the Middle East, North Africa, and Russia.  We have over seventy years of combined experience in these regions.

Ambassador Michael Gfoeller (ret.)

Founding Partner

Amb. Michael Gfoeller (ret.) is an independent consultant on international politics and security matters.

He served from 1984 to 2010 as a US Foreign Service Officer. His career included service in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Manama, Bahrain; Iraq; Moscow, Russia; Yerevan, Armenia; Chisinau, Moldova; Warsaw, Poland; and Brussels, Belgium.

He served for two years (2008-2010) as the Senior Political Advisor to General David Petraeus, then Commander, US Central Command.  From 2004 to 2008, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge’ d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

He retired from the State Department with the rank of Ambassador.

His foreign languages include Arabic, Russian, French, and German.

Amb. Gfoeller is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Cosmos Club.  He is married to Amb. Tatiana C. Gfoeller-Volkoff.

Bill Richards

Founding Partner

Bill spent 40 years on ” Wall Street ” and became involved with hedge funds in that industry’s early days 1983. He was well known for his involvement with many of the Tiger Cub hedge funds which sprung from Tiger Management Julian H. Robertson Jr’s hedge fund.

When he retired from UBS Investment Bank at the end of 2012 Bill was Senior Client Relationship Director for Hedge Funds. He has continued his involvement with the industry as Managing Partners of WBR Advisors LLC. He is also a Board Member of Precision Macro, Virtual Procurement Services and a $ 1.8 billion hedge fund founded in August of 2008.

In the non-profit world, Bill serves as Co Chairman of the Governor’s Council of Cerebral Palsy Americas Research Foundation. He is also a Board Member of the Jamestown Foundation which is well known for its research on Terrorism worldwide. In May of 2017, Bill became one of four Founding Partners of Arabia Analytica

Jeffrey Gilfix, CPA

Founding Partner

Jeff Gilfix has been working in the accounting field in NYC since 1980. He served as an auditor for Peat Marwick and Mitchell from 1980-1982, and as a senior tax accountant for Price Waterhouse from 1982-1986. Mr. Gilfix started his own tax, accounting and consulting practice in 1986, concentrating on individuals, small businesses, and not for profit organizations.

Prior to working for Peat Marwick, Mr. Gilfix worked on various financial, industrial and importation projects in Nigeria, connected with both private industry and government. Simultaneously with his starting his own business in 1986, Mr. Gilfix served as a history and English teacher, and a coach, at St. Ann’s School and at The Packer Collegiate Institute, both located in Brooklyn Heights, from 1986-2000.

In 1997 Mr. Gilfix was hired as the Chief Financial Officer at GMS Capital Partners, LP. He has served as the CFO of that venture fund, and a series of other funds, from that date until the present. Mr. Gilfix currently also serves as the CFO for TecTraum, Inc., and for Sterifre Medical, Inc., two medical device companies whose design team is located in Cleveland, OH. Mr. Gilfix also currently serves on the Board of Directors of The American Theater Group, which produces new and under-appreciated dramatic and musical plays in South Orange, NJ, and the Gfoeller Renaissance Foundation, an archaeological foundation conducting digs and scientific research in Armenia.

Mr. Gilfix is a CPA, licensed in NY, and has an MA in history from Amherst College (1977).

David Rundell

Founding Partner

David H. Rundell served as an American diplomat for thirty years in: Washington, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.   Fifteen of these years were spent in Saudi Arabia where he worked at the Embassy in Riyadh as well as the Consulates in Jeddah and Dhahran. His assignments in Saudi Arabia included: Chief of Mission, Charge d’Affaires, Deputy Chief of Mission, Political Counselor, Economic Counselor, Commercial Counselor, and Commercial Attaché.  This is a unique record of specialization for an American diplomat, not only in Saud Arabia, but in any country.  David is widely regarded as one America’s leading experts on Saudi Arabia.  He holds a B.A. from Colgate and M.Phil. from Oxford.
